Kinds of Flowers
There are many different kinds of flowers in the world. Even things that you would never consider a flower! For example, broccoli and cauliflower are both flowers. Many different spices that you use in your cooking every day are also flowers. A flower is the sexual apparatus of the plant—the section of the plant where the male and female parts are located, and the female parts are fertilized to create seeds. Most plants of blossoming or flowering sections because they need to attract bees or birds in order for the plant to be pollinated. Plants evolve, just like animals do, into organisms that maximize the chances of survivals. Seeds and pollen need to be spread far and wide to ensure the survival of the plant, so a wide number of methods have developed, or evolved, as part of that.
Not all of the different kinds of flowers are appropriate for bouquets or for sale. Some are actually poisonous to humans. Others are now seen as food, not as anything aesthetically pleasing. Others are actually viewed as weeds. For example, dandelions are flowers, but nobody would appreciate a bouquet of them! And others simply do not grow in wide enough areas to be considered an appropriate gift. The types of flowers widely available and grown in commercial lots are actually a result of years of cultural conditioning. For example, we’ve been raised to expect roses to be the traditional sign of love, and so that continues to perpetuate itself from generation to generation, even though people might go against type and prefer other kinds of flowers for their various needs.
