Florist
A florist is a person who specializes in working with flowers and plants. With the increase of websites that sell flowers, it might become increasingly common for people to not even meet or know their florists. But if you have any questions about the types of flowers you want, how to care for the flowers, how to arrange flowers, or if you want to provide a detailed order and explanation of exactly what you want, you might want to approach your local flower shop rather than order a pre-designed arrangement from a website.
Anybody can be a florist. If you have a good eye for arrangements, you love working with flowers, and you are creative, then you will probably make a great one. The first thing you need to do is find out if any local colleges or universities offer classes in floral design or arrangements. Yes, there are classes that provide real training for this profession, and people who want to work with flowers full time are expected to be trained, one way or the other. It is also possible to get an entry level position at the local flower shop, and train beneath the person who works there.
Of course, there is more to being a florist than creativity. A person who owns or works in a flower shop has a great number of responsibilities. Unpacking stock and shipments, conditioning the flowers, watering the plants, provide customer service, clean and maintain the shop to make it attractive to customers, as well as creating arrangements for display and for sale.
