Fall Flowers
People enjoy blossoms throughout the spring and summer, but then gardens seem to fall fallow in the fall. Which is unfortunate because the northern hemisphere as a short growing season. Rather than focusing on flowers that can only blossom when the weather is warm, you should plan your garden to also have a wide number of fall flowers and grasses. That way, you can enjoy beautiful blossoms even past the first freeze.
One of the best flowers to plant for the autumn is the aster. Asters are purple and yellow, they bloom in the late summer and the autumn, and they are native to North America. They do look a little bit weedy while they are growing, so you should keep them separated in the garden. Because they are perennials, you might need to trim and prune them every other year or so. Another type of flower is the Joe Pye Weed. It is a very unfortunate name, because it is not a weed at all. It is actually a beautiful blossoming plant, with gorgeous pink flowers. It does grow quite tall, and it is a native to North America, so it is easy to find and grow in the proper environment.
Russian sage is another type of fall flower. It can grow up to three feet tall, it is a perennial, it does well in dry environments, even during droughts, and it is deer resistant. It also attracts butterflies. As a result, it is a gorgeous addition to most gardens, and it does not require a great deal of effort to grow and cultivate.
