Artificial Flowers
Artificial flowers are not a recent invention. In fact, the production and use of fake flowers can be dated back centuries. It is unclear where and when the practice of using created flowers and plants developed, but some people point to China. That’s because Chinese people have long been adept at silk working. Not that all flowers are made from silk. In fact, there has been a long tradition of using many different types of materials to create a wide variety of artificial plants. When it comes to mass production, polyester is often used. Polyester is a synthetic material that is cheap, wrinkle resistant, and easily cleaned. It can be formed into very realistic looking flowers and plants. Polyester is the most common material, but it is not necessarily the best material. Silk flowers often have a much fuller, more vibrant look. High end flowers are made from silk, rayon, and cotton.
Flowers meant for large show pieces, formal bouquets, and elaborate center pieces—to name a few possibilities—are usually not made with plastic. Plastic does not look realistic, and if plastic is placed next to real flowers, then it looks even more fake. In order to avoid any indication that the plants are artificial, makers start with a wide variety of wire with different gauges. The wire is wrapped in green tear resistant, durable paper. The paper is especially made for this purpose. Dried berries, feathers, and other similar items lend more reality to the artificial bouquet.
